The I.T. Project Manager will be responsible for the management of departmental projects with the goal of delivering every project on time, within budget and within scope. Working closely with the Desktop Support, Enterprise Systems, Network & Infrastructure and Web teams, the I.T. Project Manager will also be responsible for making key design and implementation decisions such as project selection, resource management, task scheduling, managing communications with business units, change requests and guaranteeing the quality of delivery while guiding the technical and application teams on project best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Consult with business unit leaders to determine goals, technical feasibility, timeframes, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing administrative computing projects, staffing requirements, and allotment of resources
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques
  • Measure and report on project performance using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks
  • Implement quality assurance methodologies covering test plans, change/patch management, and problem management
  • Assist in aligning functional processes with software capabilities
  • Establish technical standards to ensure the long-term, cost effective management and support of the currently installed systems and other enterprise solutions
  • Prepare upgrade project plans in collaboration with team members
  • Scout for and evaluate new technology and tools as opportunities for innovation
  • Identify poor performing systems that need upgrades or improvement and schedules corrective action, when possible
  • Report on project, staff and departmental work status regularly to the CTO

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in the fields of Computer Science, Information Technologies or Engineering, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training
  • 5-7 years of IT services experience working in the IT department or in business units on technology issues
  • Ability to facilitate problem-solving among administrative groups with varying needs and priorities
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Solid technical background with understanding and/or hands-on experience in software development and web technologies
  • Proven working experience in project management in the information technology sector
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement IT strategies, tactical plans, and annual work plans
  • Ability to work with a range of technical staff to develop joint solutions
  • Ability to achieve efficiencies through workflow improvement
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Proven experience working in the higher education or not-for-profit sector, overseeing enterprise systems such as ERP, email, network, and helpdesk a plus
  • Any experience with the Colleague student information system or similar higher-education ERP system helpful
  • PMP certification a plus
