Platform Technical Lead

The Platform Technical Lead is responsible for all aspects of Animoto's backend application platform as well as managing the team that builds and operates that platform. The ideal candidate will be passionate about creating and operating a robust, reliable, and scalable application platform and helping the team and its members achieve full potential.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Designs technical architecture of Animoto's backend application platform and sets technical strategy for the platform team
• Sets goals and objectives for the team that map to the department goals, provides the team an environment to succeed
• Facilitate the development of a 6-8 member team, helping members to achieve individual goals and maximizing the potential of the team as a whole.
• Ensure the quality of design decisions taken by individual contributors through a collaborative design process.
• Aid in technology selection for the platform, establishes technology evaluation criteria and proof of concept standards
• Establishes SLA’s for services being delivered to internal and external clients
• Works closely with TechOps and the Application Reliability group to ensure platform operation is meeting SLA requirements and providing a good end-user experience.
• Establishes standardization around service development, deployment, and delivery, including instrumentation, discovery, scaling, throttling and quota management.
• Work with the team to establish best-practices and guidelines for creating and maintaining high-quality, testable codebases.
• Take responsibility for the overall planning, execution and success of complex technical projects

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

• Proficiency in API design Recent project experience with Web Services (REST, HTTP, Messaging/PubSub, etc)
• Experience working with asynchronous and distributed systems
• Mentor developers and provide team leadership
• Experience with continuous software delivery, automated testing.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Deep experience in dynamic, web-oriented languages like Ruby or Python highly preferred.
• Experience with Amazon Web Services highly desirable
