The Research Software Developer II will be responsible for :

  • Researching, designing, implementing and maintaining modules for the HHAN project, an operational web portal.
  • Providing analytical and technical guidance and working with hospital information systems and hosting staff to ensure seamless operation of the production site.
  • Participating in standards for development and software selection, and making application processing and design recommendations.
  • Specifying, designing, developing, coding, testing and implementing software applications that support the needs of multiple projects considering the individual goals and objectives of each entity.
  • Interacting closely with Computational Epidemiology Group to transform public health practice and surveillance through innovative multidisciplinary epidemiologic research and applications. Research agenda aims to have translational impact on the control and prevention of disease through better understanding of factors influencing disease risk, improved practice of public health and engaging the public around important health issues.
To qualify you must have ...
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 2 to 5 years of directly related work experience which must include: Professional Web development experience (JAVA Enterprise / JSP experience preferred; Python (Flask/Django) / Ruby on Rails also desirable); Relational Database experience (SQL);Object Oriented programming methodologies; Sharp, driven, strong communication skills; and Comfort with version control and project process (i.e., Git, SVN and Jira)
  • Additional desirable skills include: Ajax, HTML, CSS, JSON, JavaScript (experience with frameworks like Dojo or jQuery a plus); AWS/Ubuntu/RDS experience; experience developing RESTful APIs; and server configuration experience including Tomcat, Struts, Hibernate, Oracle Experience, NetBeans, SMTP experience, VoiceXML

The Health and Homeland Alert Network (HHAN) is a portal used to manage knowledge and inform decision makers about emerging public health threats. Users include hospital administrators, departments of public health, police and fire chiefs, and government offices throughout Massachusetts. The HHAN allows users to upload documents using role-based access, and also to send telephone, email and text message alert to other users.
