The Senior Database Administrator performs a variety of complex review, design, testing, implementation and administrative tasks in managing multiple databases within the enterprise.




Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Engineers logical and physical databases or reviews description of changes to database design to anticipate how changes to be made affect physical database (how data is stored in terms of physical characteristics such as location, amount of space, and access method) to ensure most efficient model is deployed.
  • Is a consultant with management for database and technology related decisions
  • Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing IT practices and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially concerning future business expansion.
  • Architects database descriptions and specify identifiers of database to database management system or direct others in the coding of database descriptions.
  • Creates and monitors thresholds for database parameters pertaining to all resources (processor(s), memory, disk space, etc.) used by database. Monitors on going "health" status of said resources to ensure reliability and performance metrics are met.
  • Implements and maintains disaster recovery instances of production databases.
  • Assists as a source of documentation and standards to help direct the activities of IT as a whole; works closely with other IT groups to coordinate current and future plans and activities including coordination and technical assistance to facilitate specific development projects that involve the computing environment, the coordination of software upgrades and the installation of new products
  • Actively participates in monitoring and maintaining consistency between development, testing, training, production, and disaster recovery databases.
  • Tests and corrects errors, and refines changes to database.
  • Provides assistance and training from a subject matter expert perspective when applicable for user community.
  • Assists in automating reporting processes
  • Composes a variety of studies, reports and related information for decision-making purposes.
  • Must demonstrate a functional knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act in addition to other Federal laws, including but not limited to: U.S. Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets & Control, Anti-Money Laundering, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and the Bank Bribery Act.

    Other Job Functions:
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Abides by all policies, procedures, and protocols set forth in the departmental, GTE Financial employee, operational and administrative policy manuals.

Required Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Make decisions on a variety of complex matters
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work
  • Research and evaluate computer applications and database server hardware and software
  • Management of hardware/software configurations including set-up, maintenance, and back-up
  • Management of complex data environments with of a variety of duties requiring the use of different standard systems and procedures. Analysis is required in applying guidelines and precedents. Problems can be unique and require the collection and interpretation of information, often working independently
  • Ability to adapt to changes in technology.


    Required Educational/Experience Credentials:
  • Bachelor's degree obtained through a formal 4 year program at an accredited educational facility; may be waived with equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years' related experience, 7+ years is preferred
  • Preferred Certifications: MCDBA (Microsoft Certified Data Base Administrator), Oracle OCP (Oracle Certified Professional and/or OCM (Oracle Certified Master)
  • Work is widely varied, involving many complex and significant variables. Analytical ability and inductive thinking are required in extensively adapting policies, procedures and method to fit unusual or complex situations. Problems typically require substantial analysis and judgment. Solutions may include existing policies and systems to address.
  • Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Wide knowledge of operating systems, controllers, and processors
