Amazon is always looking for ways to boost the numbers of Amazon Prime customers, whether that’s by holding a Black Friday-like “Prime Day” sales event or bundling in subscriptions alongside Amazon hardware, as it attempted with the launch of its own Fire Phone devices. This morning, the online retailer has a new gimmick – its dropping the price for Amazon Prime to just $67 in a one-day sale starting on Friday, September 25th at 12:01 AM ET, and ending at 11:59 PM PT.

The company says the sale will last for only 24 hours, as it’s a limited time offer.

Why $67, you ask?

The figure is in reference to Amazon’s five Emmy wins at this year’s 67th PrimeTime Emmy Awards, the company says – and this is its way of celebrating.

Amazon’s Original Series “Transparent” saw its star Jeffrey Tambor taking home the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, while “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway won for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. The show, which focuses on a father coming out as transgender to his family, is the second Amazon program to win an Emmy. However, the first was a Daytime Emmy win for “Tumble Leaf,” which scored five trophies, including Outstanding Preschool Children’s Animated Program.

By tying the Amazon Emmy wins to a sale on Prime memberships, Amazon has a chance to promote its Amazon Prime Instant Video service to customers who may now only be hearing about the company’s efforts in producing television thanks to the mainstream attention generated by the awards ceremony.

The Prime Instant Video service, a competitor to Netflix, offers Prime subscribers a growing selection of video content, including original programming like Amazon Original Series “Hand of God,” “Bosch,” “Catastrophe” and “Mozart in the Jungle,” in addition to other popular shows, like a number of titles from HBO, kid’s programming from Nickelodeon, and hit movies like “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,” “Star Trek Into Darkness” and “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” and more.

Typically, Amazon Prime memberships, which also include free, 2-day shipping on over 20 million items, access to the Kindle Lending Library, Prime Music, unlimited photo storage, and more, cost $99. That means this price drop is actually a pretty good deal for those looking to sign up. The offer is available at Amazon.com/TransparentPrime.
