Firewall Engineer

POSITION SPECIFIC INFORMATION

A successful candidate will support the implementation and ongoing operations of firewalls, web proxies, and SSL VPN devices. The successful candidate will have the ability to perform and deliver the following functions independently and with limited assistance; Assist with the design, deployment, and support enterprise class firewalls and web appliances.  Build and configure solutions in the development, test and production environment; including documenting the security infrastructure and design using Visio or similar method. 

POSITION SUMMARY This is the second level of the Technical Analyst series. This position provides technical expertise and analysis and customer-focused work within the areas of Engineering and Storage, Deployment/Deployment Mobile or Network/Telecom. Incumbents are responsible for leading lower level ITS staff and resolving complex technical problems.  Selected individuals will work within technology projects, representing their respective teams and working independently to provide significant project deliverables with limited supervision.  Support and maintain relevant applications and infrastructure using advanced troubleshooting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

IT Organizational Unit Functions: Engineering and Storage

• Provide a broad range of operational support for a variety of server platforms which may include server hardware, storage and backup complexes, operating systems and peripherals that support critical County-wide systems. Operational support involves hardware /software multi-component functional problem analysis and authority to initiate corrective actions related to operational incidents, product operation, and installation.

• Participate in technical strategic planning and implementation of new server technology standards within expertise areas.

• Perform full range of skilled technical and analytical functions for critical back end application and database system implementation and operational support. This includes, but is not limited to, complex incident/problem resolution involving multiple components / services; approval of standard change testing / implementation; performance analysis and approval of system tuning changes; and preparing / performing custom installations / setups.

• Install, configure and provide operational support for all County data centers and IT equipment rooms including component power, racking, cabling management, and security.

• Participate in technical strategic planning and implementation of new data center technologies to assure County’s uptime needs are continually met.

• On-call after hours and weekend support is required Network Systems • Provide critical system analysis, expertise, and operational support for all County data networks including networking hardware, operating systems, cabling and peripherals that support mission critical County systems.

• Participate in strategic planning and implementation of new networking technology standards to assure County’s bandwidth and uptime needs are continually met.

• On-call after hours and weekend support is required Telecommunication Systems

• Provide operational support for the County’s telecommunication systems including PBX, servers, databases, voice mail systems, contact center system, ancillary telecommunication equipment, Carrier services and remote site equipment to support a County-wide telecommunication network system.

• Provide advanced level technical strategic planning and implementation of new telecommunication technologies to ensure an efficient, cost effective, reliable County-wide telecommunications network.

• Provide advanced level back-end system implementation and operational support of the Telecommunication Network.

• Provide advanced consulting for customer departments regarding telecommunication needs, equipment provisioning, telecommunication project management, implementation and training. Deployment Engineering

• Implement and support Microsoft Operations Manager

• Implement and support End User computing images

• Implement and Support VMWare View Horizon VDI architecture • Implement and Support Printing services

• Implement group policies.

• Implement Trusted Sites

• Design and Implement Airwatch Services

• Design, Implement and Maintain Mobile Device configurations

• Provide advanced consulting services for customer departments regarding computing solutions and client oriented technology project implementation.

• Provide support for staff

• Provide implementation and operational support for all County data centers and IT equipment rooms including component power, racking, cabling management, and security.

• Provide operational support for County audio-visual systems including wireless display devices, televisions, digital signage, in-room speakers and microphones, Crestron control systems, and related technologies.

• Participate in technical strategic planning, implementation, and refresh of audio-visual systems to assure the County's collaborative technology needs are met.

• On-call after hours and weekend support is required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:  Six years of progressively responsible technical systems experience Education: Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes Licenses and Certifications: n/a
