Role:We are a team of technology pioneers within CBRE looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to begin immediately as a full-time employee in Seattle. 

We have spearheaded Agile and DevOps practices within our organization since day one, and we embrace a culture of open, data-driven improvement and decision making.

Our group develops unique, and sophisticated internal products, focusing on producing cutting-edge applications that provide better data, better workflows, and (most importantly) make our users happy providing the best possible experience.

Our current infrastructure is loosely comprised of: 

* A flexible, scalable, cloud-based application layer ?
* Backend computation and storage cluster ?
* Client-side applications designed for specific user groups and multiple devices

This job requires being on an on-call rotation schedule shared with the rest of the team.

Most of the job will focus on:

* Responsibility for our live systems’ performance, availability, reliability, and security
* Design, plan, and execute automated deployments
* Collaborating with other developers to develop new features and fix bugs
* Performance and capacity projections for live systems
* Being a technical contact with our hosting providers 

Your responsibilities will include: 

* Overseeing staging and production deployments. This includes upgrade plans and ensuring we can rollback
* Applying configuration management tools to manage infrastructure as code
* Automating our deployment scripts, and selecting the appropriate CD/CI technology for our team and products
* Automating monitoring and alerts, and establishing our monitoring practices 
* Configuring scalable farms for some subsystems such as Celery, Kafka, Elastic, or Spark
* Analyzing and reporting the system and application performance
* Triaging problems according to severity, cause, and workarounds 
* Working with the developers to understand bugs, and fix some of them yourself 
* Looking for ways to make our deployments and systems more efficient, secure, and responsive
* Design and build new infrastructure stacks as our products evolve

QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in a related field or equivalent work experience. Requires technical and business knowledge in multiple disciplines/processes. 
* Typically has 3-5 years of relevant work experience. Consideration given to equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Self-sufficient and self-starter
* Understanding how technologies need to align with the needs of the users and the business 
* Excellent communication skills: capable of explaining complex technical concepts using non-technical terms
* You don’t just learn how things work, you also like to know why 
* When you encounter symptoms with incomplete information, you’re comfortable improvising as you go 
* Experience gathering and processing system vitals, alerting/monitoring, logs and using them to diagnose problems
* 5+ years of UNIX/Linux systems operation 
* 1+ years of experience in Operations, Infrastructure or pure DevOps practice
* 1+ years of cloud infrastructure using AWS
* Capable of reading and writing code in at least one of the most popular scripting languages (Python, Javascript, Perl, Bash, etc)
* TCP/IP networks operation and troubleshooting experience 
* Some level of understanding of how Operating Systems work
* Knowledge on how to compile and distribute packages from code
* Empirical knowledge of the configuration management ecosystem
