Position Summary
The Innovation Scout will source new innovative technologies for Honda, conduct technical due diligence in collaboration with Honda R&D units globally, and help jumpstart collaborative projects between Honda and early stage technology startups in tech hubs throughout Japan.
What you will do:
Principal responsibilities include: individually generating deal flow of innovative technologies in strategic target areas including transportation technologies, robotics, and industrial innovation, managing the due diligence and technology evaluation process, maintaining good relationships with our partners, and supporting internal information dissemination and communication within Honda R&D.
Qualifying candidates should be well organized and have a strong understanding of information technology and the venture ecosystem throughout Japan.
Requirements:
- BS in Science or Engineering (additional MBA or business background preferred).
- Minimum of 3+ years experience in business development, venture capital, tech scouting, or corporate R&D.
- Fluent in Japanese and English.
- Position located in Japan (contract to hire).
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build upon an existing personal network and cultivate a broad network of contacts and external partners.
- Solid understanding of early stage startups, venture financing, intellectual property laws, and corporate innovation.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills
- Ability to interpret data and present relevant conclusions/recommendations
- Creative and passionate about leveraging new technologies to create new experiences, improve human mobility and bring joy to customers.
- Proactive with an ability to adapt to dynamic circumstances.
- Work experience with a Japanese company and familiarity with the auto industry is a plus.
