Retro Recruiting is helping a client find a Backend Engineer to join their growing team.

The company has a development philosophy and culture rooted in:

  • Autonomy - Make your own choices, but take responsibility for those choices
  • Pragmatism -  Constantly balance short-term priorities with long-term goals
  • Velocity - Prioritizing rhythm, velocity, and time-to-fix vs. process, permission, and paralysis by analysis.
  • Evolution - recognize every team is a living organism and evolves -- keep an open mind

They are  technology-agnostic, with a current mix of Rails and NodeJS and heavily invested in the full gamut of AWS services (ELB, EC2, SQS, RDS, etc). They are fans of ElasticSearch. They plan to extend our portfolio of microservices, and looking for this new hire to chart the course.

Why you’ll be challenged

Their app and website serves 100,000’s of users and we’re growing. Our fault-tolerant system is designed to run 24/7 without disruption and handle external failures with grace. They love queues, and they love exponential backoffs, and you should too.

As they grow, you will have the opportunity to build and lead a team, and/or specialize as a heavy-lifting engineer... Chart your own path and keep your options open.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 4+ years experience developing scalable backends
  • Experience with the AWS ecosystem
  • Expertise with API standards and design patterns
  • Experience with Ruby/Rails and/or NodeJS, strong opinions for which other languages and frameworks could be in our best interest
  • Proven track record of collaborating on a team on large-scale projects
  • Must plan to work a majority of time on-site at our new office in Charlestown, only a couple T-stops away from downtown Boston
