Sr./Principal Informatics Architect, Dev Sci Informatics

Description

We are seeking a talented and experienced informatician to lead the scientific data architecture efforts in Development Sciences Informatics (DevSci Informatics). Development Sciences (DevSci) is a translational science organization that plays a critical role in Genentech Research and Early Development as well as late stage development of our products at Roche. DevSci supports drug discovery and development projects across all therapeutic areas from discovery to launch and beyond. We are poised at a unique time when large volumes of complex and varied internal and external data for DevSci areas such as Biomarker, PK/PD, Diagnostics, Safety Assessment and Bio-analytical need to be readily accessible to ensure that swift interpretation and decision making can occur. These data impact decisions in ongoing preclinical and clinical programs, and provide key knowledge to inform new target discovery. DevSci Informatics is accountable for leading the strategy and execution around data lifecycle management, data standards, analytics infrastructure, ongoing data operations and informatics systems.

Major Responsibilities:
The Principal Informatics Architect sets the direction and strategy for the long range DevSci Informatics application and data architecture, and is responsible for leading the design and implementation the database landscape for our scientific data in alignment with the scientific objectives.

• With thorough understanding of R&D data pipelines, establish and maintain the technical and scientific partnership with scientific functions. Communicate effectively with key stake holders.
• Establish and lead strategic planning of our data landscape across multiple functions to ensure data accessibility, quality, and integrity.
• Lead and perform database design and modeling, application development, ETL processes, and data warehousing. Participate and lead multiple projects.
• Engage in informatics and data governance initiatives across Roche. As a thought leader and strategic partner for global efforts, influence and set directions to ensure delivery of relevant data services and informatics solutions with cross-functional impacts.
• Bridge the communication between the DevSci Informatics team with the other informatics teams on architect standards and interoperability.
• Maintain expertise and knowledge of technology trend and informatics landscape in our industry. Assess and identify new opportunities for data management and utilization to further drug discovery and development efforts.

Who You Are

Competences and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s with 12+ years  of relevant experience; or Master’s/PhD with 8+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent experience. Degree in a scientific discipline preferred.  Advanced degree a plus.
• Thorough understanding of R&D processes and scientific data life cycle. Evidence of business and technology acumen. Deep understanding of informatics landscape in the Pharma/biotech industry. Expertise in the scientific data management strategy development and execution.
• Track record of successfully proposing and delivering large scale informatics solutions to address complex scientific data challenges with broad impact. Has a sustained record of managing group or project teams to deliver in multiple areas. 
• Deep experience with database architect design, data warehousing, applications as data services to enable interoperability.
• Up to date knowledge of data technology trends and utilities in general and in particular for pharmaceutical research and development. Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases, as well as scripting languages. Working knowledge of scientific research applications development cycles, data management techniques and infrastructure requirements.
• Working knowledge with genomic data and biological assay data a major plus. 
• Proven senior stakeholder relationship management skills. Ability to manage and influence teams of scientific and technical specialists in a matrix organization
• Excellent leadership, analytical, and written/verbal communication skills. Self-motivated, proactive and a team player.
