Envolved is searching for a CTO to become a senior, founding member of our leadership team.

The Company

Who we are and what we do

Envolved believes that the current state of civic engagement in America – be it voting and interacting with the government, charitable activity, discourse or volunteerism – is antiquated and as ripe for technological disruption as any business.  We are building a platform to do just that.

Our mission is to bring civic engagement into the 21st century and empower users to make a real impact on the world around them as easily as “liking” a Facebook post.

Start-Up Status

Envolved is currently pre-revenue and is operating with a minimal core team consisting of a Board Chairman, CEO and Director of Business Development.  We have chiefly been using outsourced developers and other consultants to design and market our product.  We have an MVP focused on philanthropy which will launch in January.  We anticipate building our team rapidly following a capital raise in January/February.

The Role

As CTO you will form part of the core leadership team of the business and your input will be sought on all materially strategic decisions.  We do not believe in silos, we believe in teams of smart, diverse, motivated people who share the same values and goals and can engage with one another constructively and respectfully to move the business forward.

Responsibilities

Technical

  • Develop a technological development plan that meets the needs of both the business and users with technical specifications, high level system architecture, wireframes, timeline, and budget.
  • Own the deliverables of that plan and execute on it by building and managing internal teams, sourcing and managing outsourced development teams or some combination of the two.
  • Provide and evaluation “options” for the technical direction of the company
  • Predict how new technologies might impact the company in the short and long term
  • Predict and stay ahead of any technical inflection points that might significantly affect the company.
  • Advise on the long-term technical strategic direction of the company and where or where not to make large strategic technical bets.
  • Be an intelligent, pragmatic contributor to strategic and financial decision making at the highest level.
  • Maintain good relationships with designated key industry analysts.
  • Provide technical due diligence of partner technologies and acquisition targets to make sure they properly fit with the company’s platforms, offerings, and culture.
  • Track and assess the competitiveness of all other startups in the same space

 

Strategic

 

Business and Corporate Development

  • Serve as public face of technology for the company for investors and other key stakeholders.
  • Evangelize the company vision and technical direction through conferences, speaking engagements, and press/media/analyst activities.

 

Key Qualifications

We take it as given that:

  • You are a seasoned manager who is able to anticipate as well as react to challenges and to plan and execute solutions to those problems 

We assume that you are technically expert in all relevant technologies and languages relevant to building a web and mobile based platform but at a minimum you must be expert in the following:

  • Javascript library: ReactJS v16.0.0
  • Node.js framework: Koa v2.3.0
  • Database: MongoDB 3.6
  • Operating system: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
  • Web server: Nginx
