About this Position

The Web Developer/Administrator role at Children’s Council is a multi-faceted position primarily responsible for developing and maintaining our custom web applications.  Children’s Council is entering a period of growth in the information technology area and this role is central to implementing our technological innovations.  We need someone who has analytical skills and a keen ability to anticipate needs and offer solutions as we develop our internal systems and meet the needs of our staff and clients.  One of our key applications helps match families to child care providers through a central eligibility waitlist and our partnership with the City of San Francisco represents an opportunity to influence how this application will work in the future.  The web developer will play an integral role informing the design and delivery with our partners as this database is redesigned and deployed in the coming year.  This role also works closely with the rest of the IT team to update our internal and external websites, provide support to staff on the applications, and develop custom applications and enhancements.  Our ideal candidate for this role is a people-person, with a problem-solver mindset and a human-service orientation that drives you to help us fulfill our mission of connecting families to quality child care.   

Key Responsibilities

  • Support our San Francisco Child Care Connection (SF3C) Team’s Central Eligibility Waitlist application. Currently using ColdFusion application, MS SQL database and IIS web site.
  • Meet and communicate with SF3C Team regularly to understand business needs and update the software and automated reports to reflect changing needs.
  • Provide training and continuing support and technical assistance via on-site meetings and phone to users on staff and in the community, as needed.
  • Develop and support custom forms, plug-ins, or other web applications on our website that meet organizational business needs.
  • Manage and maintain the organization’s Intranet, currently SharePoint, and manage migration to new technology, as needed.
  • In response to program needs, develop custom applications or enhancements to existing software; code, test, debug and maintain systems.
  • Answer IT support tickets relating to applications for which you are responsible as well as those you have the technical knowledge to answer.

Required Education & Qualifications

  • BS degree in Computer Science or related field, or comparable experience
  • Three years website developer/administrator experience
  • Experience with current programming languages; i.e.: .Net, JavaScript, PHP, AJAX, Ruby, Python, MVC
  • Experience with ColdFusion, HTML/CSS, XSLT, jQuery, APIs
  • Experience with SharePoint development and administration
  • Experience with MS SQL Server 2008/2012 administration and tSQL queries
  • Familiarity with IIS and Apache
  • Firm grasp of emerging trends in information science and web design
  • Ability to work effectively with a team and with a diverse population of staff and clients.
  • Bilingual in English/Cantonese or English/Spanish a plus.
