Freelance WordPress Developer

Job Description

Owl’s Head Solutions, a virtual full-service branding, design and development agency, is seeking a freelance WordPress Developer experienced in both back-end and front-end development, deployment, security, and ongoing maintenance of WordPress websites. The ability to code custom themes, and experience with responsive and adaptive design is paramount.

In addition to technical skills, the ideal applicant must be capable of working closely with the management and design teams in order to help maintain continuous project awareness across all departments.

Responsibilities

• Collaborating with the management and design teams at the project’s concepting phase to assist in determining realistic goals and timelines

• Assisting in the creation of project management process standards to keep projects on track and on time

• Assist the design team in understanding what is possible from a development perspective, and making suggestions for how to improve functionality or UI

• Designing and implementing new features and functionality

• Establishing and guiding the website’s architecture

• Ensuring high-performance and availability, and managing all technical aspects of the CMS

• Guide the WordPress website development process from start to deployment and beyond

• Train clients as to how to use the CMS’s we implement

Skills and Qualifications

• Expert understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, SASS

• Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications

• Experience designing and developing responsive and adaptive design websites

• Experience building custom WordPress themes from scratch

• Experience building custom WordPress plugins

• Comfortable working with debugging tools like Chrome Inspector and XDebug

• Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers

• Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes done in Invision or Photoshop into working web pages

• Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML)

• Proficient understanding of GitHub

• Strong understanding of PHP back-end development

• Strong understanding of object oriented coding concepts

Nice to Have

• Experience with Docker

• Experience with PHP Storm

• Knowledge of React.JS

• Familiarity with Wrike

• Familiarity with other CMS and Frameworks such as Drupal, Shopify, Magento, Bootstrap, etc
