Job Title: Systems Administrator 

Department: Digital Imaging Center

Reports to: Manager of the Digital Imaging Center 

Position Overview: The Systems Administrator manages the Digital Imaging Center’s computer infrastructure and is responsible for planning, testing, deployment, operations, maintenance, monitoring, and support of all workstations and servers.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Address and solve user issues in respect to desktop, software, hardware and peripheral equipment needs.
  • Plan, install, maintain, repair and support all software, hardware, and peripherals (printers and scanners).
  • Conduct software and hardware research, testing, and implementation, as well as log and troubleshoot print services.
  • Design solutions that conform to institutional policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Research, plan, test, and implement future computer technological departmental growth pertaining to networking, server, and client systems.
  • Develop, deploy and test server and local and networked client systems.
  • Install, configure and maintain servers and related network hardware.
  • Recommend and plan departmental network architecture and equipment needs.
  • Coordinate with IT department to configure and implement Network services and administer PaperCut.
  • Liaise with outside vendors and coordinate with Manager on purchase requests.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals by reviewing requirements for the product to select the most appropriate vendor.
  • Evaluate, implement, and manage appropriate software and hardware solutions to ensure system integrity.
  • Develop test scenarios appropriate to the changes being implemented to ensure all delivered solutions work as expected and errors are handled in a meaningful way.
  • Perform and supervise routine maintenance checks and updates on servers, local and networked client systems.
  • Build, maintain and ensure the backup of key systems, and provide technical assistance to staff members.
  • Provide user support for SVA owned Apple hardware, including Macintosh desktops and laptops, iPads, and AppleTVs.
  • Perform software upgrades including planning and scheduling, testing, and coordination
  • Oversee daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Work closely with Manager in ensuring consistent operations at the Digital Imaging Center.
  • Keep staff informed of software status, hardware status, and any known issues.
  • Enforce policies and procedures for computer lab, print room and studio desktops.
  • Stay abreast of current and future software/hardware developments by attending related conferences.
  • With IT, manage card access to classrooms and labs for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist with train and supervising junior technical support staff.
  • Create and updated as needed instructions and tutorials to aid in the use of managed services available at the Digital Imaging Center.
  • Follow and maintain IT security awareness and best practices as appropriate in order to deliver secure solutions to users.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager and CIO.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years related experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge of Mac OS X hardware, operating systems and software applications, network environments, hard drives, RAM, laser printers, scanners, iOS and all software and hardware related to administrative office workflow.
  • Working knowledge of all Adobe software, i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom, Dreamweaver, Flash, After Effects; FinalCut Pro; Apple Remote Desktop; Casper Suite; PaperCut; HTML and other web scripting languages.
  • Appropriate training or certifications a plus.
  • Art or creative production background and knowledge of technology trends and ongoing developments.
  • Must demonstrate strong critical thinking, analytical reasoning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to execute assigned project tasks within established schedule.
  • Must be a team player with the ability to identify issues and be proactive in driving solutions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work with students, faculty, and staff to resolve problems.
  • Willingness to work additional hours as needed
