Cloud Architect & Lead Software Engineer

The University of Virginia Library seeks a Cloud Architect & Lead Software Engineer. This engineering position will be responsible for architecting a cloud strategy for the University of Virginia Library and as cloud architect and lead software engineer will work with a team of engineers to implement and operationalize that strategy. Demonstrated experience in working with cloud technologies, designing and developing software, and a solid knowledge of development operation practices are valued. This position may manage other engineering staff, and will work closely with the Library CTO/Senior Director for IT on emerging technology solutions and strategic priorities. UVa is a research-intensive (Carnegie classification R1) institution and the UVa Library works with other libraries to produce solutions for libraries, archives and museums internationally. This position will also participate in national/international projects as necessary.

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor's degree or demonstrated direct experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Demonstrated cloud technology experience. Demonstrated software design and development experience. Demonstrated management experience. Ability to conceptualize a problem and develop technology requirements. Ability to define and develop application programing interfaces. Ability to deploy and manage cloud based applications. Ability to design and develop software in a cloud environment. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, with a wide audience. Required Computer Application: Unix Operating System.

Preferred:

An advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, Library Science or related discipline or demonstrated direct experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Experience developing software for managing digital assets for a research library or national archive. Demonstrated knowledge of linked data. Demonstrated experience developing software with common application frameworks. Demonstrated experience developing web server applications. Demonstrated experience with database technology. Knowledge of Library and Archives community driven open source technologies. Knowledge of indexing technologies. Knowledge of repository technologies. Knowledge of object oriented design. Knowledge of digital object formats. Knowledge of library metadata standards. OpenStack, Hydra, SOLR, Fedora, Blacklight, Rubymine, Github, etc.
