The University of Minnesota Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) seeks a Report Developer to develop and distribute management level reporting on clinical research activity throughout the enterprise. The position requires both ability to understand complex data sources and skill at developing meaningful reports. In addition, the role requires proficiency with analytical tools (SQL, Tableau, Qlikview, or similar business intelligence (BI) software, Excel, Access), use of presentation software, strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering the highest level of customer service. The position will report to the CTSI Business Systems Manager and work closely with leaders and managers in CTSI and throughout the clinical research enterprise, to support the overall data and reporting needs.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and deliver business intelligence reporting and dashboards through Tableau primarily, including both management level and department level reporting.
Code new reports or make enhancements to existing reports based on detailed specifications.
Convert ideas and business needs into meaningful report designs and data requirements; enhance report requests by anticipating requestor’s needs and recommending or presenting alternatives.
Troubleshoot production or application issues with reports.
Streamline and automate existing reporting, liaison with Academic Health Center Information Systems developers on special projects as needed.
Advise requester of reporting capabilities and limitations of data; recommend alternative approaches to reporting on desired data, if appropriate.
Ensure documentation of considerations, nuances, trends, etc., is available per report; assist with interpretation as needed
Work with AHC Data Privacy Office to understand and implement best practices for generating reports, including understanding what data is able to be accessed, and developing methods for ensuring proper data is utilized for report creation and proper permissions are established for data access prior to report distribution.
Collaborate with the CTSI Monitoring and Evaluation team to support the data and report work of this team.
Participate in Tableau User Group sessions and educational labs to ensure use of best practices in report development and maintenance
Provide one-on-one support, as well as user training and education on Tableau.
Serve as a resource for report users.
Assist with providing access to Tableau server; work with departments as needed to ensure collection of license fees.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (Information Systems, Statistical Analysis) or a combination of related education and work experience in the areas of data analysis, data modeling, or reporting using BI software to equal four years.
Experience designing and developing dashboards and reporting metrics using business intelligence software like Tableau, Qlickview, or Cognos.
Able to write queries using SQL to extract and manipulate data to achieve desired results using select statements, sub-queries, functions, links of multiple tables, scripting, etc.
Able to understand business questions and translate those business questions into analytics.
Capability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with others throughout all levels of the organization.
Able to manage competing deadlines, manage variances in schedules and resource.
Able to adapt to shifting priorities.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced level skills in Tableau, Qlickview, Cognos or similar business intelligence software, Excel (pivot tables, look-ups, advanced formulas, regressions, etc.) and Access.
Knowledge of the University of Minnesota data warehouse structure.
Experience supporting clinical research and/or clinical trial management systems (OnCore, Velos).
